Queens Democratic Club Honors Community Leaders at Annual Dinner Dance

Astoria, N.Y. - Over 100 members of the Powhatan and Pocahontas Regular Democratic Club today gathered for their annual Dinner Dance, where they celebrated the club’s successes over the past year and honored six outstanding community leaders.

The honorees included:
Patrick Dolan, President, Enterprise Association of Steamfitters, Local Union 638
Eve Cho Guillergan, Esq., U.S. Immigration Attorney
Santos Rodriguez, Director of Community Affairs and Strategic Initiatives, Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater New York
Jesse Rose, Esq. and Avninder (Andy) Aujla, Esq., Members, Powhatan & Pocahontas Democratic Club
Lynn Schulman, Community & LGBT Activist

“We are honored to recognize all of these community leaders’ amazing accomplishments,” said the club’s president Dirk McCall.  “Their work providing legal assistance, advocating for labor, and helping communities in need is exemplary.  They are truly role models for our neighborhood to follow.  We thank our honorees for their contribution to our community and all who joined us tonight.”

Over the past year, Powhatan has reached out to community members, held policy-based events and discussions, and educated the public about the electoral process.  Members of Powhatan continue to organize political activities including phone banking, petitioning, canvassing, voter registration drives, and debate watch parties. The club has helped to elect Democrats to office, provide an ongoing space for the community to engage with elected officials on a grassroots level, and encourage Democratic political activism.

Founded in 1901, the Powhatan and Pocahontas Regular Democratic Club represents the 36th Assembly District, Part A, in Astoria.
