Community Debate Night

Join our third Community Debate Night! We'll have snacks and drinks on hand, two debates featuring informed and prepared community members, and Q&A opportunities after each debate during which you’ll be able to challenge the debaters directly by asking your own questions.

In the first debate, Jesse Rose and Henry Simon will debate the role of the Democratic Party in primaries: support selected candidates, or ensure a level playing field?

In the second debate, Paula Avila-Guillen and Connor Mealey will debate whether ICE should be abolished or reformed.

Both of these topics have been hotly debated in the past couple of years. By bringing these debates into the clubhouse, we’re looking to turn political tension into political community. Please join us for a neighborly night of friendly arguments about serious political questions.

The doors will open at 6:45pm, the first debate will start at 7pm, and we’ll wrap up around 9pm. You can participate in the Q&As or just sit back and enjoy some snacks and drinks. We’ll take a hand-raise poll at the end of the event to see which side prevailed in each debate. Suggested donations of $10 will cover costs for drinks and snacks. Any additional funds will go toward future programs like this.

Grievances & Grub - MAY 19

When politics gives you lemons, make lemonade. We all have political grievances, and we all express them, often on social media, where griping can unfortunately fray relationships. We're offering a more constructive outlet for your grievances. Log off for a couple of hours and join us at the clubhouse to eat, drink, gripe, and build community.

We'll all throw a little money in to pay for the grub, with any extra going to support future programming at the clubhouse. Bring a friend. Bring a grievance. Bring ten dollars. We'll make figurative lemonade.

DIRECTIONS: Take the R train to Steinway Street. Exit toward the Broadway side. Walk north up Steinway St to 31st Avenue. Make a right on 31st Ave. Then walk toward 43rd Street but make a left onto Newtown Road. Walk up Newtown Road and you'll see the clubhouse on the right side.

Postcard Party for Liz Hanbidge

The blue wave has been making its way across the country in many special elections and key races. On May 5, we are partnering with Sister District NY-12-13-14 to host a postcard party for Liz Hanbidge. Liz is running as a Democrat in Pennsylvania State House District 61. Learn more about Liz here.

What is a postcard party? It's a new trend happening on the grassroots level. It's an easy way to get involved and spread awareness about a candidate in their district. We will provide postcards, postage, suggestions on messages to motivate voters, and plenty of good cheer and friendly conversations. Get creative! What would you say to someone about voting for a strong Democratic candidate? It's also a fun activity for youngsters! This event is kid-friendly.

We'll provide some markers. Make sure you bring your favorite pen! Learn more about this type of event here.
