Powhatan Democratic Club Members Collect 1,000 Petition Signatures
Astoria, N.Y. - Members of the Powhatan and Pocahontas Democratic Club collected over 1,000 petition signatures to help secure a place on the ballot for local Democratic candidates in the upcoming municipal elections.
Members collected signatures for Democrats down and up the ballot including judicial candidates, City Council Member Costa Constantinides, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James, and Mayor Bill de Blasio who are running for re-election. The club held a training for members new to the petitioning process in early-June. The signatures were collected by door-knocking, at community events, and at public gathering spaces.
“The enthusiasm we saw from members who enjoyed participating in this grassroots process is great,” said the club’s president Dirk McCall. “Collecting signatures from registered voters in Astoria introduces Powhatan members to their neighbors and brings them closer to the democratic electoral process. We also help build our networking and community relations skills. Collecting signatures connects our members to the candidates in a tangible and substantive way. Thank you to everyone who helped petition this June!”
Founded in 1901, the Powhatan and Pocahontas Regular Democratic Club represents the 36th Assembly District, Part A, in Astoria.
